We went out for groceries early this morning to beat the X-mas rush at Wegmans. Much warmer today than yesterday and all the snow we got in the last day or so has turned to mush on the side streets and “snirt” at intersections. IOW - not a fun day for a ride. Seems like a better day to write, and wrap up the story for 2024. A Great Year! It started slooooow … still in “recovery” from my August ’23 meltdown. It took me into the first week of February before I was able to crank out my first 1/2 century+ … … but by week 2 of February, I pulled off an 82 miler and a month later, I got my first century of the year, And by June, I scored my 152 miler! (see earlier blog posts) That set the stage for the rest of the year. Mostly. I wasn’t yet ready, physically, to tackle any long bike tours this year, but nearly three weeks of biking around trails on vacation in Nova Scotia was terrific fun, even if it was “time off” from hard-core mileage. Back in town, I poured on the coal and ramped it up, at least till the snow started falling. Now in December and getting our lake effect snows, I’m ramping DOWN for the season. That simply means the winter fattie is back out with studded tires, and pogies to keep my hands warm. So, here are the stats for 2024 … my best year since 2020 when I hit over 11,000 miles! I’ll likely add a few more miles to this before New Year’s day … hey … it hits 40 degrees next week! Lets ride! -b
